Jordanian Restrictions Hampering Israeli Airline Flights

Khaberni -  The Israeli airline "Arkia" announced that the Jordanian authorities made a sudden change in their policy, which led to the prohibition of operating several flights that the company had planned to operate through Aqaba Airport, as alternative arrangements for Ben Gurion Airport.

The company explained, according to Khaberni's monitoring of the Hebrew press, that the new restrictions involve not granting approvals for flights using airplanes belonging to European companies, which has led to the cancellation of several flights, especially those headed to European destinations and Bangkok, in the absence of the necessary regulatory permits.

The company added that part of its operations will be shifted to Taba Airport in Egypt, according to operational capabilities, noting that it is working with relevant parties to resume its activities as soon as possible.

In the same context, Khaberni, aviation sector sources estimated that the company might have to cancel all its flights through Jordan if the current restrictions continue.

The developments also pointed to additional challenges on the Egyptian side, where the authorities raised the transit fees at the Taba crossing, which increases the cost of travel given the growing reliance on this route as an alternative.
