Jordan condemns the prevention of holding Palm Sunday Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre

Khaberni - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs strongly condemned the actions of the Israeli occupation authorities for preventing the Latin Patriarch in Jerusalem from reaching the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and conducting the Palm Sunday Mass; a blatant breach of international law, international humanitarian law, the existing legal and historical status, and violating the unrestricted freedom of access to places of worship.

‏The official spokesperson for the ministry, Ambassador Fuad Majali, confirmed the kingdom's condemnation and absolute rejection of the illegitimate restrictive Israeli measures against Christians, preventing their free access to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to perform their religious rituals, and the necessity to respect the existing legal and historical status in Jerusalem and its holy sites, affirming that Israel, the power in occupation, has no sovereignty over Jerusalem, and emphasizing the need to stop all measures that hinder worshippers' access to their places of worship.

‏Majali reiterated the kingdom's condemnation of Israel's ongoing closure of the gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif to worshippers and the restriction of freedom of worship; considering it a blatant violation of international law and the existing legal and historical status and its obligations as the occupying power, warning of the dangers of its continuation.

‏Majali called on the international community to take on its legal and ethical responsibilities, to compel Israel to stop its violations of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, to respect the historical and legal status there, and to fulfill the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in establishing their independent, sovereign state on their national territory based on a two-state solution.
