Khaberni - The Parliamentary Committee on Labor, Development, and Population, chaired by MP Andre Al-Hawari, continued to discuss the proposals and opinions about the draft amendment to the Social Security Law for the year 2026.
Al-Hawari said, in the presence of the Jordanian Economic and Social Council president Musa Shteiwi and the Executive Director of the Jordan Strategy Forum Nisreen Barakat, that "the Economic and Social Council is a national landmark that has always been a true space for responsible and constructive dialogue," appreciating
"the great efforts made by the Council in managing in-depth dialogues, especially regarding the actuarial study, as it has presented an advanced model in involving different parties and listening to diverse opinions with genuine patriotic spirit."
He pointed to "the role played by the Council, which is not only a consultative role but rather a pivotal national role that contributes to enhancing trust and crafting more balanced and sustainable decisions that serve the interests of the nation and its citizens."
He noted that the Jordan Strategy Forum, this intellectual landmark, has been an important reference in economic analysis and policy-making based on knowledge since
its establishment, playing a prominent role in providing in-depth studies and strategic insights that support the decision-makers and address economic and national issues objectively and responsibly, always placing national interest at the heart of every discussion.
We highly value the research and recommendations provided by the Forum, and the ongoing efforts in fostering a knowledgeable economic dialogue based on numerical and scientific analysis.
In turn, Musa Shteiwi confirmed that the draft amendment to the Social Security Law for the year 2026 comes within the framework of comprehensive reform aimed at achieving a balance between the financial sustainability of the institution and expanding the social protection umbrella for citizens.
He explained that the project is based on the outcomes of a broad national dialogue involving various parties, focusing on three main pillars: governance, financial sustainability, and enhancing social protection and justice, in line with national directives and the economic modernization vision.
Barakat stated that the draft amendment to the Social Security Law is an important step in the path of economic and social reform, as it plays a central role in enhancing social protection and ensuring the sustainability of the insurance system in Jordan.
Barakat emphasized that the importance of this project is not limited to the financial aspects but also extends to the need to align it with labor market changes, particularly in light of economic transformations such as the growth of informal employment, freelance work, and flexible jobs. She clarified that any legislation that does not keep pace with these changes may limit its effectiveness and reduce its ability to achieve its goals
