Jordan Heavy thundery rain and warnings of floods today and tomorrow

Khaberni - Jordan is gradually affected on Wednesday by a strong state of atmospheric instability, with cold weather in most areas and the appearance of clouds at different altitudes. Gradually, the amount of clouds increases, and rain begins to fall starting from the southern regions, including the city of Aqaba, later extending to include several parts of the kingdom including the capital, Amman.

In the afternoon, it is expected that the rainfall will be heavy in some areas accompanied by thunder and hail, leading to the formation of floods in the valleys and low areas including Aqaba and the Dead Sea. The winds will be moderate to brisk west to northwest.

The Meteorological Department warns in its report of the danger of floods forming in valleys and low areas including Aqaba and the Dead Sea, and the danger of thunderstorms and hail, and the danger of reduced horizontal visibility at night due to the formation of fog and low clouds touching the ground surface in mountainous areas, and reduced horizontal visibility due to dust stirred up by the wind during periods during the day and before rainfalls, especially in desert areas, and the danger of slipping on roads experiencing rainfall.

The maximum and minimum temperatures in East Amman today range between 15-5 degrees Celsius, in West Amman 13-4, in the northern highlands 12-3, in the Sharah highlands 11-4, in the desert areas 18-7, in the plains areas 15-6, in the northern Ghors 22-10, in the southern Ghors 24-14, in the Dead Sea 23-13, and in the Gulf of Aqaba 22-14 degrees Celsius.

On Thursday, there is a noticeable drop in temperatures, and the kingdom remains under the influence of the cold and moist air mass, with cold, cloudy, and rainy weather in most areas. The rainfall is expected to be heavy at times in some regions accompanied by thunder and hail, leading to the formation of floods and rising water levels in valleys and low areas in many places, including Aqaba and the Dead Sea, which necessitates staying away from these areas.

In the early morning hours, there is a possibility of light snowfall on the high southern mountain peaks (Sharah) for a short period, with west winds active in speed with strong gusts reaching (60 km/h).

Local Administration Minister, Walid Al-Masri, stated that the upcoming weather condition requires the cooperation of all efforts, and operating rooms to be opened around the clock, in coordination with the Civil Defense and the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the activation of operation rooms at a medium level, and the elevation of staff and machinery readiness and emergency teams in various areas of the kingdom starting from Wednesday until Friday evening, in light of the expected weather condition according to the Meteorological Department's report.

The decision comes as the kingdom is affected by a state of atmospheric instability and a weather depression, accompanied by heavy thundery rains in several regions with a potential for flood formation during the mentioned period.

Amman Greater Municipality announced a maximum state of emergency starting from Wednesday morning, to cope with the weather depression affecting the kingdom.

The Public Security Directorate warned of the expected state of atmospheric instability on Wednesday, where rainfall is expected to start from the southern regions, including the city of Aqaba, later extending to include various regions of the kingdom, and may be heavy at times, accompanied by thunder and hail, according to weather bulletins issued by the relevant authorities.
