AlHarahsheh Iranian assaults on Jordan and the Gulf countries represent a blatant breach of international law

Khaberni - The Permanent Representative of Jordan to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Akram Al-Harahsheh confirmed that the Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army - intercepted and responded to more than 240 missiles and drones that were launched by Iran towards the territory of the kingdom since February 28.

Al-Harahsheh added, in a speech before the Human Rights Council on Wednesday, that the armed forces and security agencies also dealt with more than 414 falling projectiles, while the number of civilian injuries reached 24.

Al-Harahsheh strongly condemned the attacks targeting Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, considering them a blatant breach of international law and state sovereignty, affirming Jordan's absolute solidarity with the Arab and Islamic states and its support for the measures taken to protect their security and stability.

He mentioned that these attacks and their consequences pose a direct threat to human rights in the region, especially the right to life, health, and a decent standard of living.

In this context, Al-Harahsheh welcomed the adoption of Security Council Resolution No. 2817, proposed by Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, considering it an important step reflecting a global consensus condemning the Iranian assaults and rejecting any infringement on the sovereignty and security of the Arab states.

He emphasized the need to stop the attacks and restore calm, warning against the expansion of the conflict and highlighting the importance of activating diplomacy and dialogue to consolidate security and stability in the region.

The Human Rights Council of the United Nations held an urgent session on Wednesday to discuss the consequences of the Iranian attacks on Jordan and the Arab Gulf states.

The Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan had requested, last Thursday, an emergency session in the Human Rights Council in Geneva, to discuss the Iranian attacks that targeted civilian objectives and energy infrastructure across the Middle East.
