Khaberni - Doha News reports that Qatar Airways, the national carrier of the State of Qatar, is temporarily diverting some of its aircraft to airports abroad (Spain) due to the current unstable situation in the region.
The Qatar-based company’s media office explained that the aircraft will return to scheduled flights as soon as aviation activities return to normal levels.
In the meantime, Qatar Airways has declined to disclose the exact number of aircraft parked overseas, pointing to the "dynamic nature of the current operating environment."
According to Flightradar, about 20 Qatar Airways aircraft were diverted in recent days to Teruel Airport in Spain, which is one of the largest centers for aircraft maintenance and long-term storage in Europe.
Qatar closed its airspace on February 28 due to instability in the Middle East. Following the approval to use a specific air corridor on March 7, Qatar Airways began operating repatriation flights and serving its customers from Hamad Airport to selected destinations.
On March 9, the airline operated its first special flight to Moscow since the airspace closure, and resumed scheduled flights on March 18. However, customers soon faced more flight cancellations.
