Khaberni - The Qatari authorities reported on Wednesday that a fire broke out in the Ras Laffan area due to Iranian targeting.
The Ministry of Interior said in a statement that "Civil Defense is dealing with a fire in the Ras Laffan area due to Iranian targeting".
This comes after Tehran announced that it would target energy infrastructure in various Gulf states following a US-Israeli attack on its gas facilities.
Meanwhile, Qatar Energy, a state-owned company, announced on Wednesday that "severe damage" was inflicted on a gas facility due to Iranian attacks.
The company clarified that "Ras Laffan Industrial City was subjected to missile attacks this evening and emergency response teams were immediately deployed to contain the fires resulting from the attack, which caused severe damage. No fatalities occurred as a result of the attack".
Qatar expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the Iranian targeting of Ras Laffan Industrial City, which caused fires resulting in severe damage to the facility, stating that this attack is a serious escalation and a blatant violation of the sovereignty of the state and a direct threat to its national security and stability of the region.
The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Qatar, despite distancing itself from this war from its outset and its cautiousness in not engaging in any escalation, the Iranian side insists on targeting it and neighboring countries, in an irresponsible approach that undermines regional security and threatens international peace.
The ministry emphasized that Qatar has repeatedly called for not targeting civilian and energy facilities, including those on Iranian territory, to preserve the resources of the region's people and maintain international security and peace, yet the Iranian side continues its escalatory policies pushing the region toward the abyss, and dragging countries not involved in this crisis into the conflict circle.
The ministry confirmed that this attack constitutes a breach of the United Nations Security Council Resolution No. (2817), renewing its call for the Security Council to assume its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security, and to take necessary measures to stop these serious violations and deter the perpetrators.
The ministry reiterated that the State of Qatar reserves the right to respond, in accordance with Article (51) of the United Nations Charter, and what international law grants as the right of self-defense, stressing that it will not hesitate to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and the safety of its citizens and residents on its territories.
