Khaberni - Minister of Transport Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin chaired an extended meeting at the ministry's headquarters today, Tuesday, attended by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Services and Transport Committee Dr. Ayman Al-Badadwa, to discuss a range of regulatory and developmental files related to the transport sector.
The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport Fares Abu Diya, the Director General of the Land Transport Authority Riyad Al-Kharabsheh, the Assistant Director of Public Security for Traffic General Mohannad Al-Batayneh, along with the Truck Owners Union leader Mohammad Khair Daoud, his deputy Ibrahim Al-Ghazawi, and the relevant ministry and authority staff.
The meeting discussed the file of traffic violations across various transport modes, and mechanisms for handling vehicle impoundment, emphasizing the importance of reviewing the current procedures to ensure fairness and maintain the law's prestige, without adversely affecting the interests of committed operators or impacting the sustainability of their businesses.
Al-Qatamin stated that the traffic violations file for transport means is a regulatory priority, and it comes within the framework of correcting the course and enhancing traffic discipline, ensuring the development of more efficient and fair mechanisms for handling violations, while also maintaining the continuity of operations in the sector.
He indicated that the ministry coordinates with the relevant bodies to study the necessary legal frameworks, ensuring clarity of procedures and enhancing trust among different parties.
For his part, Al-Badadwa emphasized that addressing the issue of transport means violations requires a balanced legislative approach that considers public safety and protects operators in the sector, stressing the need to develop the legislative and regulatory system to address existing challenges and limit the negative effects resulting from the accumulation of violations.
The meeting also discussed the reality of the truck sector and the challenges it faces given the surrounding regional conditions and fluctuations in trade movements and supply chains, and the necessity of enhancing the sector's efficiency and competitive capacity both regionally and internationally.
An agreement was reached on putting practical steps in place to develop the truck sector, improve safety and operational efficiency standards, and promote digital transformation in procedures, contributing to reducing operational costs, raising service levels, and enhancing the competitiveness of Jordanian land transport in neighboring markets.
Al-Qatamin affirmed that developing the truck sector represents a national priority given its pivotal role in supporting supply chains and trade movement, noting that the current phase requires a genuine partnership between the public and private sectors to keep up with regional changes, and transform existing challenges into opportunities that enhance Jordan's position as a regional logistical hub.
He added that the ministry will work in coordination with the union and related bodies to devise an implementation plan with specified timelines to ensure a gradual transition towards a more organized, efficient, and competitive sector.
