Tips for Reducing Blood Pressure During Fasting

Khaberni - Some people suffer from issues in controlling blood pressure levels during the fasting period in the blessed month of Ramadan. What are the simplest ways to lower blood pressure without using medication?

One of the most important things that a person with high blood pressure should focus on is consulting a specialist doctor before Ramadan, so the doctor can adjust the medication doses and timings to suit the fasting periods.

Health experts advise those with high blood pressure to avoid stress triggers during fasting and to engage in stretching or yoga exercises that relax the body and calm the nerves.

Doctors also emphasize the importance of drinking adequate amounts of water during suhoor, avoiding salty foods that increase blood pressure, and consuming vegetables and fruits rich in fluids that help expel excess sodium from the body.

It is important for the person with high blood pressure to avoid stimulants as much as possible during suhoor, and not to consume excessive amounts of tea, coffee, and soft drinks as they increase blood pressure rates and accelerate the expulsion of fluids from the body.

Among the simple measures that can help a fasting person lower their blood pressure without needing medication is getting sufficient sleep to avoid fatigue and stress, as well as practicing slow and deep breathing exercises.

According to Russian cardiologist Maria Chaikovskaya, a deep breathing exercise can be performed while sitting or lying down. She stated in her YouTube channel on the subject: "To engage the diaphragm, place one hand on your chest and the other near your navel. Slowly and deeply inhale through your nose so that your belly rounds and contracts during exhalation. In this case, the upper hand should not move. Focus entirely on your breathing, breathe slowly and deeply. You should breathe six times a minute."

The doctor believes that this exercise can help control blood pressure through its impact on the nervous system.

Doctors stress the importance of not having the patient with high blood pressure, who is taking medication, adjust their medication times or doses during the fasting period on their own, as this could lead to serious complications.
