Discovery of a Cause for Rapid Decline in Gut Immunity

Khaberni - A recent scientific study has warned that consuming foods high in fats, even for a short period, can lead to a rapid decline in the level of immune cells that protect the intestines.
During experiments, scientists demonstrated that following a diet rich in fats leads to a rapid decrease in the number of ILC3 cells, which are crucial in intestinal immune defense, as they maintain the integrity of the intestinal barrier and prevent inflammation, and their loss, even in the first days, leads to increased intestinal permeability and heightened inflammation.

Researchers also found that changes in gut microbes and the inflammatory signals associated with them play a key role in this process, as they weaken the immune cells' ability to process fats, cause mitochondrial dysfunction, and eventually lead to cell death.
The study also showed that the effect of diet on gut health is reversible, as the intestinal immune system can recover when the diet is adjusted, and researchers believe that these findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the early mechanisms of inflammatory and metabolic disease development, emphasizing the importance of nutrition in supporting the function of the immune system.

In addition to their danger to the intestines, health experts warn that foods high in fats cause serious problems for the liver, issues with arterial and heart function, and increase the likelihood of developing diabetes and metabolic diseases.
