Khaberni - In a bizarre incident ranked among the strangest robbery operations in the country, Turkish security forces in the city of Kayseri arrested a 26-year-old man after he carried out an unconventional robbery of a jewelry store using a stolen crane before attempting to escape primitively on the back of a donkey.
At around four o'clock in the morning, the suspect approached the jewelry store while the area was nearly deserted. However, he did not use a car or motorcycle, but a forklift he had previously stolen. With the forklift's blades, he pried open the store's metal curtains, broke its facade, and then quickly entered.
Inside the store, the suspect not only breached the doors but pushed the glass panel and dropped it to the ground to access the jewelry. According to Turkish media sources, he stole about 150 grams of high-value gold before turning to his unexpected getaway method.
Escape on a donkey's back
After triggering the store's alarm and as the police and local residents began to wake up to the noise, the thief left the forklift aside and mounted a donkey he had prepared near the location and fled through the streets and nearby fields. The scene, as described by locals and surveillance camera footage, seemed more like a comedic cinematic scene than a real robbery.
Despite the odd escape plan, it was directly instrumental in his apprehension, as police teams spotted the suspect riding the donkey in the streets, facilitating his arrest without resistance.
The security devices later found the stolen gold buried near the scene and returned it to its owner.
The Turkish authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, amid widespread media interest for the humorous and strange nature of the execution and escape.
