Khaberni - The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) documented a remarkable incident when a large baboon monkey infiltrated one of the mosques in the Busika area of Luweero District, causing confusion among the worshipers.
The authority stated that the worshipers were surprised to find the monkey inside the mosque, which prompted them to flee fearing a possible attack, before they closed the doors to prevent it from escaping or causing external damage.
The people present took the initiative to offer banana fruits to the monkey in an attempt to calm it down and keep it in a safe place until rescue teams arrived.
The video showed the baboon sitting near one of the walls inside the prayer hall, which appeared empty, while sounds of amazement, intermittent laughter, and comments in local languages mixed with astonishment and fear could be heard in the background.
According to the authority, wildlife teams rushed to the site and managed to control the monkey and safely remove it, in preparation for its transfer to "Murchison Falls National Park" where it undergoes precise health monitoring before being reintegrated with baboon groups in its natural environment.
