Larry the Cat 15 Years Serving the British Prime Ministers Office

Khaberni - Larry the Cat celebrated 15 years as the resident rat catcher at the British Prime Minister's headquarters on Downing Street, after having served six prime ministers. The cat, who is 19 years old and officially known as the "Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office," has repeatedly captured public admiration with his appearances in front of the Prime Minister's door in central London.

Former Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha adopted Larry from an animal shelter in February 2011. Over the years, the cat took on the responsibility of rodent control, a venerable job held by several cats since the 1920s, with records of cats in government buildings dating back to the reign of King Henry VIII. Larry was the first cat to hold this position since Humphrey, who was adopted in 1989 after wandering into the Prime Minister's residence during Margaret Thatcher's administration, and retired in 1997.

It is believed that Larry made his first successful catch in April 2011 when he was four years old. Today he is 19 years old, which is equivalent to 90 human years. When Cameron adopted him, he said he was "happy to welcome Larry to his new home" and felt confident that he "would be a wonderful addition delighting visitors." Over the years, Cameron's confidence proved true, as people frequently enjoyed seeing him lying on the steps of the Prime Minister's residence, chasing pigeons, or giving interviews to the press. Even during political turmoil, Larry the Cat remained a source of joy.
