Nutritionist reveals the reason for bloating after morning tea or coffee

Khaberni - A nutritionist revealed that the feeling of bloating after drinking a cup of tea or coffee in the morning may not be related to the drink itself, but to adding milk, especially for those who suffer from lactose intolerance.

Olivia Molino, the nutritionist, explained that tea and coffee alone do not usually cause bloating, although they may trigger some symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome in some people.

She indicated that cow's milk contains lactose sugar, which may not be fully digested by people with lactose intolerance.

She pointed out that undigested lactose reaches the colon where it ferments, leading to gas accumulation and the feeling of bloating. Lactose intolerance is known by the appearance of gastrointestinal symptoms such as stomach pain, bloating, and diarrhea after consuming dairy products, and may sometimes be accompanied by other symptoms such as headache, fatigue, and muscle pain.

To mitigate these symptoms, it is advisable to reduce or avoid intake of lactose-containing foods, with the need to avoid making sudden dietary decisions without consulting a specialist.

Molino emphasized the importance of consulting a nutritionist before eliminating any dietary component, stressing the necessity of following an organized trial that involves gradually reducing lactose and then reintroducing it to accurately determine tolerance levels.

In response to a query about feeling bloated even after drinking water, she mentioned that the causes of bloating are varied and may include medical, dietary, or lifestyle-related factors, requiring a comprehensive evaluation by a physician or digestive system specialist to identify the underlying cause and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
