Khaberni - A post by the Director of Internal Security in Sweida, Suleiman Abdel Baqi, sparked widespread controversy on social media, after he announced the imminent entry of Syrian government forces into the city.
Abdel Baqi confirmed in his post that the entry is near and aims to restore the prestige of the law and protect the residents, and is not for revenge.
He emphasized that rights are preserved for their owners, and accountability will take place according to the law, not chaos, focusing on implementing reconstruction, agriculture, education, as well as combating drugs and abductions through official institutions, to ensure a safe city free of rampant weapons and gangs.
He clarified that accountability will include everyone who committed a crime or exploited the issue, while the rights of those who defended their land and dignity will be preserved, affirming the achievement of true justice and establishing the rule of law, and reassuring the people that Sweida will remain the city of science and dignity. Abdel Baqi also announced his intention to publish the entry mechanism soon, without additional details so far.
In turn, the Director of the Media Office at the Sweida Security Directorate, Qutaiba Azzam mentioned that the exit of Prince Abu Yahya Hasan Al-Atrash (Prince of Dar Ar) and the prominent social and traditional figure in Sweida province, from the southwestern countryside of the city to Damascus has been secured, according to Al Jazeera.
A source in Sweida confirmed that the operation against the National Guard forces of Sheikh Hakmat Al-Hajri - one of the Druze community leaders in Sweida province - would resemble a previous operation against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with violations avoided, amidst the deployment of security forces throughout the province.
The source mentioned that the advance of the government forces might push Sheikh Al-Hajri to sign an agreement that will dissolve the "National Guard" and allow the entry of security forces in exchange for benefits in appointments.
According to the source, the leader of the Druze community in Israel, Mowafaq Tarif, told Hajri that the Israeli army is unable to assist them in establishing an independent state, and that their direction should be towards Damascus.
Previously, Hajri rejected the initiative of the Sweida governor Mustafa Bakour for national dialogue, which called for forming a dialogue committee to bring parties together to discuss issues calmly and constructively, inspired by experiences in countries like Lebanon, South Africa, and Colombia in resolving disputes through dialogue and reconciliation.
