Khaberni - The Speaker of the House, Mohammed al-Halbousi, has instructed the parliamentary department of the council to communicate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the Iraqi ambassador in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within 48 hours, following a video that clarified the contexts.
The media department of the council stated: "The Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed al-Halbousi, directed the parliamentary department in the council to address the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and to summon the Iraqi ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia within 48 hours."
It added that "al-Halbousi also directed the formation of a committee to investigate the matter and to inform the council of its findings."
The decision to summon comes against the backdrop of a controversial filmed video that spread from within the Iraqi embassy in Riyadh on social media, showing Iraqi figures standing inside the embassy while a Saudi delegation sits and speaks to the Iraqi delegation.
The Iraqi embassy issued a statement in response to the incident, indicating that the video was taken out of context, representing the moment when the Iraqi delegation moved from one place to another and proceeded to invite the Saudi delegation to a dinner banquet.
The embassy's statement added: "Regarding what was circulated on some social media sites from a short video clip showing the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Safia Taleb al-Suhail, and the accompanying comments and interpretations that alleged non-diplomatic behavior towards an official Iraqi delegation, the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Riyadh would like to clarify the following: the ambassador and the Iraqi delegation participating in the Saudi Defense Exhibition 2026 hosted an invitation at the official residence of the ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, hosting a number of Saudi figures, alongside figures from the Iraqi community, where the Iraqi side was the inviting and hosting party, while the guests from the Saudi side attended responding to the friendly invitation."
