Emirates Global Aluminium Announces Preliminary Evaluations for Production Resumption

Khaberni - Emirates Global Aluminium announced its preliminary evaluations for operational processes after the recent Iranian attacks on the company's site in the Taweelah area.
Emirates Global Aluminium is one of the largest industrial facilities for aluminium production in the world.

The Taweelah site suffered significant damage due to Iranian missile and drone attacks on the Khalifa Economic Zone - KIZAD.

The company stated in a statement published on its official website on Friday that the site was completely evacuated and emergency lockdown activated, including the aluminium smelter and foundry, the power station, and the Taweelah alumina refinery, and the Taweelah recycling plant.

To ensure the smelter's restart, it was clarified that Emirates Global Aluminium will need to repair infrastructure damages and gradually restart each reduction cell in the smelter.

The company expects that the full resumption of initial aluminium production may take up to 12 months according to preliminary indicators, and some production operations at the Taweelah alumina refinery and the Taweelah recycling plant may resume earlier, according to the final assessment of the damages.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, the CEO of Emirates Global Aluminium, stated, "We strongly condemn the attack targeting our employees who represent over forty different nationalities, during their daily work duties."

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban added, "Our site in Taweelah is one of the main pillars of the global economy and this attack will impact the supply chains of several industries around the world."

He emphasized in his statements that the safety and security of the employees are their top priority, noting that they continue to also support their global customers, working directly with customers who may see their orders impacted by the current situation.

The Taweelah smelter produced about 1.6 million tons of cast aluminium in 2025.

Emirates Global Aluminium maintains large quantities of the metal in the UAE and at its locations around the world, in addition to several maritime shipments.

During 2025, the Taweelah alumina refinery produced 2.4 million tonnes of alumina, accounting for 46% of the company's total alumina needs, while the Taweelah recycling plant has an annual production capacity of 185,000 tonnes.

It is worth noting that the largest metal production facility at Emirates Global Aluminium suffered significant damage during an Iranian missile and drone attack on March 28.

Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing informed sources, that Emirates Global Aluminium is preparing to sell large shipments of alumina, the basic raw material used in the production of aluminium, following the attack that targeted its main smelter.

The agency quoted the sources saying that "the company offered this week to sell several shipments of alumina to be shipped between April and June of the coming year.
