Khaberni - The Kuwaiti writer and human rights journalist Jassim Al-Jareed sparked controversy after posting news on his account on "X" indicating that he had obtained Israeli citizenship.

Al-Jareed confirmed in statements made through his official page on "Twitter" that what he published about obtaining Israeli citizenship was merely an "April Fools' joke" to test the cultural and civil awareness of Arab peoples.

He noted that "the State of Israel is not a country we envy, it is an advanced state that seeks to live in peace and tolerance, and those who attacked him regarding his obtaining Israeli citizenship do not have full cultural awareness."

He mentioned that obtaining Israeli citizenship requires renouncing the original nationality, and prior residence in Israel for a minimum of 3 years.

Earlier, Jassim Al-Jareed revealed in a post on his "X" platform that he would become an Israeli citizen within a few weeks, officially accepting the offer.

In an attempt to clarify his position, Al-Jareed posted a picture of the Israeli passport alongside a video in which he explained the reasons that prompted him to make this decision. He mentioned in the video his particular ideological and political convictions, confirming that he is taking this path based on his personal vision of events in the region.
