Khaberni - The Vice President of the Economic and Social Council, Reem Badran, said on Sunday that the Council's visit to the governorate of Al-Karak was an opportunity to closely look at the economic and social challenges and potentials in the governorate, pointing out the participation of academics, experts, industrial, commercial, and service sectors, and citizens in the session.
Badran explained, in statements to the "Kingdom" channel, that the Council focused on small and medium-sized projects, supporting cooperatives, and boosting the tourism sector, especially in light of the shortage of lodging rooms, with the proposal of new financing tools to support youth, women, and entrepreneurs, in addition to discussing investment opportunities in the industrial city of the governorate, where the employment rate does not exceed 38%, while the unemployment rate reached about 17.3%.
She added that the Council has been engaged since its establishment in 2007 in communicating with different segments of society and putting forth studies and recommendations to the government to ensure that policies respond to the local reality, focusing on the industrial, service, agricultural, and tourism sectors, and addressing unemployment issues by creating new job opportunities.
She indicated that among the proposed measures discussed was organizing a national conference to activate investment opportunities, especially in the industrial city, linking the private sector with governmental entities to come out with actionable recommendations that align with national economic visions and meet the needs of the governorates.
Badran referred to the advisory role of the Council in legislation, such as the Social Security Law, confirming that meetings were held with youth, women's institutions, the labor union, parties, and parliamentary blocs to provide actuarial studies and recommendations to ensure the sustainability of the fund and improve legislation for the long-term benefit of citizens.
