Britney Spears Sells Her Music Rights for 200 Million

Khaberni  - Global star Britney Spears has joined the list of top artists who have decided to give up the rights to their music catalogs, as concurrent media reports have confirmed her completion of a major deal with the music publishing company Primary Wave.

“People” magazine stated that Britney Spears, who is 44 years old, finalized this deal at the end of last December. TMZ was the first to reveal this move after reviewing legal documents confirming the transfer of ownership. Despite the financial confidentiality surrounding the agreement, sources for NBC News estimated the deal's value at about $200 million.

Songs Included in the Deal

The deal includes a collection of songs that shaped the history of global pop music, notably: "…Baby One More Time," "Oops!… I Did It Again," "Circus," "Womanizer," and "I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman."

"Pop Princess" Career

According to Sony Music, Britney Spears has an impressive record of achievements. She released her first album in 1999, and has released 9 studio albums up to 2016, achieving record sales of approximately 150 million copies worldwide.

Primary Wave, the company acquiring the catalog, is a giant in the field, holding rights of music legends such as Prince, Bob Marley, Stevie Nicks, and Whitney Houston.

The company manages over 1000 songs that reached the top ten, and more than 400 songs that topped the charts worldwide.

This step is part of an investment wave witnessed by the music industry, where artists prefer to receive large immediate financial liquidity in exchange for digital streaming rights, a trend previously followed by artists like Justin Bieber and Shakira.
