Khaberni - Grief overshadowed the Iraqi artistic community following the announcement of the death of artist Sajida Obaid at the age of 68, after a battle with illness, where she passed away in one of the hospitals.
The Iraqi Artists Syndicate announced her death through an official statement, expressing its sorrow for the loss of the artist, affirming that the artistic scene had lost one of the most prominent voices in folk song, and prayed for her mercy and patience for her family.
According to circulating information, the deceased suffered a sudden health crisis that caused a cardiac arrest, where the medical team tried to resuscitate her, before her condition deteriorated and she passed away.
Sajida Obaid started her artistic career at an early age, entering the singing field at twelve, before achieving widespread popularity in the late 1970s, following the success of several of her works that established her presence among the audience.
During her career, she presented a collection of songs that became popular, including “Yatima” (Orphan), “Haza Al-hilu Katlani” (This Beauty is Killing Me), “Khala wa Ya Khala” (Aunt and Oh Aunt), and “Ana Ard A'of Kol Hali” (I Want to Leave All My People), along with many traditional songs and folk works.
Her career included participation in concerts and festivals both in Iraq and abroad, which helped enhance her artistic presence and kept her on the scene for many long years.
