Khaberni - A relative of Abdel Halim Hafez revealed that the actual cause of his death was blood poisoning due to an incorrect blood transfusion during surgery in London, not hepatitis.
The late artist Abdel Halim Hafez's nephew announced new details related to his death, confirming that the cause was not hepatitis as previously thought, but blood poisoning due to an incorrect blood transfusion following a surgical procedure in London.
During televised statements, he clarified that the purpose of this clarification is to correct the narratives spread about the death of “the Dark Nightingale,” noting that his health situation was complicated and that the medical capabilities available at that time were not as advanced as today.
He also mentioned that in 2007, the artist's family took the extraordinary step of opening his tomb, a move that sparked widespread controversy at the time. He pointed out that this step was taken after obtaining approval from the Egyptian Dar al-Ifta, due to groundwater seepage into the grave coinciding with the thirtieth anniversary of his demise.
He added that the family was surprised when opening the tomb to find that the body was in a relatively good condition, as it had preserved many of its features, despite the long years passed, which astonished those present and the media.
He affirmed that this experience was poignant for the family, allowing them to ensure the condition of the grave and the corpse, in addition to honoring the great artist in a manner befitting his artistic stature and his broad impact on the history of Arab singing.
