Due to the Ring of Fire a strict warning against looking at the sky at this time

Khaberni - An announcement from the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research in Egypt warns against looking at the sky throughout the day next Tuesday, which coincides with the occurrence of the "annular solar eclipse" or what is known as the "Ring of Fire," which has recently topped the interest on social media platforms.

The Institute emphasized that "looking at the sun during the eclipse must be done using approved protective means to preserve the retina," noting that "conventional sunglasses do not provide adequate protection for it."

The Institute explained that "it is expected that on Tuesday, February 17, a type of eclipse will occur where the Moon does not completely obscure the Sun's disk but leaves a bright edge around it, at the peak of the event."

This type of eclipse is less common than the "partial eclipse" and attracts wide attention due to its distinctive visual nature and scientific importance.

According to the statement, the "annular eclipse" will pass through several regions worldwide, while other countries will experience a "partial eclipse" with varying degrees, while details on visibility percentages within Egypt and the exact timings will be announced later.

The "annular eclipse" represents an important opportunity for researchers to study the layers of the solar atmosphere and the movement of celestial bodies with greater accuracy, and it attracts the interest of astronomy enthusiasts and those who love to follow cosmic phenomena, especially after the official announcement of its date.

The Institute affirmed that it will issue detailed statements in the coming period that will include the percentages of viewing the solar eclipse of 2026 within Egyptian provinces and the best times for observation, urging citizens to exercise accuracy and not to follow "unreliable" information circulated via electronic platforms.
