Killing of two children and injury of 12 people in a drone raid on a school in Sudan

Khaberni - Two children were killed and 12 others were injured on Wednesday in an air raid by a drone attributed to the Rapid Support Forces targeting a religious school in a city in North Kordofan under military control, according to a medical source.

An eyewitness reported that the raid targeted a religious school in the city of Rahad, and attributed the attack to the Rapid Support Forces, which have been at war with the Sudanese army since April 2023. He noted that he saw 12 wounded following the raid.

Kordofan, the vast fertile oil-rich region, is currently the most affected frontline in the conflict devastating Sudan for about three years.

Rahad is located near Al-Obeid, a strategic city on the road linking West Sudan to the capital, Khartoum, which the Rapid Support Forces are currently trying to control after recapturing El Fasher in October, the last army stronghold in the Darfur region in the west of the country.

More than 115,000 people have been displaced from Kordofan since then, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The war in Sudan has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of people and the displacement of about 11 million, causing what the United Nations described as "the worst humanitarian crisis in the world".
