Abu Aqoula The Syrian Decision to Ban Truck Entry Threatens Jordanian Exports

Khaberni - The Head of the Clearance and Freight Transport Companies Syndicate, Dr. Dhaifallah Abu Aqoula, said that the Syrian authorities' decision to ban trucks from entering through Syrian territories and to work with the "back to back" system at the Nassib Customs Center was a shock to the Jordanian logistical sector, and was considered a unilateral and harsh decision, taken without any prior coordination with the Jordanian side.

Abu Aqoula explained in television statements that Jordan previously operated with a "door to door" system from the port of Aqaba to the merchant's warehouses, for both Jordanian exports and goods arriving from the Gulf countries, pointing out that the infrastructure at the Nassib Customs Center cannot handle the current exchange system, amid daily movement of about 500 Jordanian trucks entering Syria and 500 empty trucks returning to Jordan.

He pointed out that the Nassib Customs Center can only deal with a limited number of trucks daily, which will lead to the congestion of goods and the disruption of trucks for weeks, and an increase in operating costs, which will negatively affect Jordanian exports, especially building materials, and weaken their competitive ability in the Syrian market.

Abu Aqoula affirmed that there are official agreements signed between Jordan and Syria that ensure the smooth flow of goods and the entry of trucks between the two countries, noting that Jordan does not prevent Syrian trucks from entering its territory, and operates on a principle of reciprocity, considering that any modifications to these agreements must be made through official channels and with prior notice.
