Ministry of Water Most dams in southern regions are completely filled

Khaberni - The spokesperson for the Ministry of Water, Omar Salama, said that most of the dams in the southern regions are completely filled, adding that the rainy season has recorded more than 120% of the general annual average so far, up until today, Friday.

He added to "Al-Mamlaka" that the ministry dealt with the dam floods by utilizing these waters and storing them in the King Abdullah Canal and the Karamah Dam, noting that the floods at several dams were handled positively, including the Tannur Dam in Tafilah, the Karak Dam, the Lajjun Dam, the Wuhaydi Dam in Ma'an, the Shida Dam, as well as the King Talal Dam.

Salama explained that the rainfall varied between the regions of the kingdom, where it was concentrated in the southern regions where the percentage exceeded 100%, while some northern regions have not yet surpassed this percentage.

He pointed out the existence of 650 pits and desert dams most of which were filled with water, contributing to the replenishment of groundwater, clarifying that the recent rainfalls significantly helped in increasing the storage of the dams and water harvesting sites.

He confirmed that the ministry activated emergency plans during the recent weather condition, and no notable problems were recorded, pointing out that the current season is promising for the agricultural sector, expressing hope for increased storage percentages in the northern dams during the upcoming depressions.
