Nuwab Medical exemptions are easy to obtain and do not require connections

Khaberni - The head of the Parliamentary Health and Food Committee, Ahmad Al-Sarhanah, confirmed that all issues related to the health and food of citizens, both legislative and regulatory, fall under the responsibility of the committee, emphasizing the importance of enhancing the health protection system in the kingdom.

Al-Sarhanah, through Al-Mamlaka TV, stated that about 70% of Jordanians are covered by health insurance in both the public and private sectors, calling for the need to increase this percentage to achieve 100% comprehensive health coverage.

He clarified that approximately 30% of citizens are not covered by health insurance, most of whom are not working in the public or private sectors. He also noted that all Jordanians are actually covered by health services in government hospitals, where those without health insurance can obtain a medical exemption for treatment.

Al-Sarhanah mentioned that obtaining a medical exemption from the Royal Court is easy and takes no more than 10 to 15 minutes, denying the need for any connections in this process.

He confirmed that the committee has called for the expansion of the health insurance umbrella for poor families, aiming to include them in treatment at primary healthcare centers. He pointed out that the conditions to obtain health insurance for this category include that the family income should not exceed 300 Jordanian dinars, and they should not own a modern car or a commercial register.

Al-Sarhanah considered that a family income of 300 dinars is very low, calling for the income ceiling to be raised to 500 dinars to enable more families to benefit from health insurance.

He also explained that the committee recommended to the Presidency of the House of Representatives to cover all Jordanians under the health insurance umbrella, in preparation to elevate the recommendations to the Prime Minister's Office.

For his part, a member of the Parliamentary Health Committee, Hakam Ma’adat, confirmed that about 30% of Jordanians are not covered by health insurance, but they can obtain a medical exemption for treatment in government hospitals in a record time.

Ma’adat added that the procedures for obtaining medical exemptions are easy and do not require "connections," noting that about 800,000 poor families are covered by health insurance without any financial burden on them.
