Khaberni - Official statistics issued by the Petra Region Tourism Development Authority showed a "noticeable improvement" in the number of foreign visitors during the year 2025, reflecting a gradual restoration of confidence in Petra as a global tourist destination after regional and international challenges in recent years.
According to those statistics, the total number of visitors to Petra during the past year was 582,550 visitors, an increase of 27% compared to 2024, which recorded 457,215 visitors.
On the foreign visitors front, the data showed a varied timeline during the period 2019–2025; as the number of foreign visitors in 2019 was about 1,000,179 visitors, before declining to 271,760 visitors in 2020, and 135,229 visitors in 2021, affected by the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Foreign tourism registered a gradual recovery in 2022 and 2023, with the number of visitors reaching 683,798 visitors in 2022 and 985,696 visitors in 2023, before experiencing a sharp decline in 2024 to 257,284 foreign visitors, a decrease of 74%, due to regional developments.
In 2025, the number of foreign visitors began to increase again, recording 373,752 visitors with a growth rate of 45% compared to 2024, making foreign visitors account for 64% of the total number of visitors to Petra during the year.
Data showed that October recorded the highest number of visitors during the year 2025 with 81,069 visitors, while December noticed a significant improvement with 53,383 visitors, achieving a growth of 95% compared to the same month in 2024.
These indicators reflect a gradual return of confidence in Petra as a global tourist destination and the beginning of the recovery of tourism activity, following the return of various airlines to the region, especially low-cost airlines.
