4 Tips to Protect Your Car from Glass Fog and Mold

Khaberni - In the winter, many car drivers encounter recurring problems inside the cabin, including the condensation of water vapor on the glass, the appearance of frost, and the annoying smell of mold, resulting from the accumulation of moisture that seeps from clothes, shoes, and even the surrounding environment.

According to the German Automobile Club (ADAC), there are several effective and easy ways to reduce humidity and keep the car cabin dry and clean:

1- Ventilate the car properly to quickly reduce moisture
Experts recommend opening all car doors for a short period, provided that the outside air is drier than the air inside the car. However, this method becomes ineffective when there is rain or heavy fog.

2- Operate the heater and air conditioner together
Running the heating and air conditioning at the same time is one of the most effective solutions, as the air conditioner's compressor extracts moisture and expels it outside the cabin.

You can select the defrost mode in cars equipped with automatic air conditioning control, where maximum warm air flow directed towards the front glass is automatically operated.

3- Address moisture from clothes and mats
Moisture often seeps into clothes, shoes, and fabric foot mats, leading to later evaporation of water on the glass. You can address this by:

Use rubber foot mats that do not absorb moisture and are easy to clean.
Immediately remove wet mats and items from the car to avoid unpleasant odors and mold.
Ensure to remove snow and mud from clothes and shoes before entering the car.
Place wet items, such as hats and jackets, in the trunk to prevent the spread of moisture.
4- Regularly check for leaks
Sealing elements around doors and windows may lose their effectiveness over time, leading to water accumulation inside insulation materials and the appearance of mold; hence, the following is recommended:

Use a sealing element care pen for leak prevention, and if any problem appears, head immediately to a specialized technical workshop.
Regularly remove leaves and dirt from the area between the hood and the front glass and from water drainage outlets, to avoid clogging the system and water leaking into the cabin.
By following these tips, any driver can keep the car cabin dry and free from fog and mold during the winter, protecting the front glass and ensuring a safe and comfortable journey even on the coldest days.
