More Epstein documents made public millions of pages

The US Department of Justice published today, Friday, more of its investigative files on Jeffrey Epstein, resuming thus the publication of the documents under a law aimed at revealing what the government knew about the assaults committed by the millionaire and financial expert against minors.

The files, published on the Department of Justice's website, are part of several million pages of documents that officials said were withheld from the initial release of documents in December.

This came after the files were disclosed under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a law that was enacted after months of public and political pressure, which mandates the government to open its files about the late financier and about his confidante and former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell.

After missing the deadline set by Congress on December 19th for the release of all files, the Department of Justice announced that it had tasked hundreds of lawyers to review the documents to determine what should be redacted or withheld to protect the identities of the victims of sexual assaults.

The department reported that the number of documents subject to review had risen to 5.2 million documents, including duplicates.

It should be noted that the Department of Justice had published tens of thousands of pages of documents before Christmas, including photographs, interview transcripts, call logs, and court records.

Many of them were either already published or had large portions redacted.
