Rubio Iran Weaker Than Ever

Khaberni - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Wednesday that Iran today is "weaker than ever," anticipating a resurgence of protests eventually, at a time when the United States is intensifying its pressure.

In front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Rubio said, "This regime is probably weaker than ever, and the main problem it faces... is that it has no way to respond to the main grievances of the protesters, relating to the collapse of their economy."

Regarding Venezuela, Rubio predicted the resumption of permanent diplomatic representation to Venezuela "in the near future," following weeks of detainment of Nicolas Maduro.

Rubio added, "We have a team on the ground assessing the situation, and we believe we can establish an American diplomatic mission shortly, which will allow us to obtain current information and respond to the situation."

He pointed out that reopening the American embassy would improve communication with Venezuelan authorities, as well as with "members of civil society and the opposition."

As for Greenland, Rubio predicted a "satisfactory outcome for all" regarding Greenland as negotiations begin, after President Donald Trump confirmed that he would not order the use of force to acquire the island from its ally Denmark.

He continued, "Technical-level meetings will be held between us and our partners in Greenland and Denmark regarding this matter, and I believe we have an existing path that will lead us to a satisfactory outcome for all."
