Head of the Judiciary in Iran Vows to Punish Protest Instigators

Khaberni - The head of the judiciary in Iran vowed on Sunday to punish those instigating anti-government protests that the country has recently witnessed, stating they will face punishment “without any leniency”.

The protests began on December 28th last year, sparked by deteriorating living conditions, and quickly expanded to include slogans opposing the authorities of the Islamic Republic established since 1979.

The protests quickly became one of the most significant challenges to the Islamic Republic.

However, the protests subsided following a governmental crackdown executed amid an internet blackout, which largely isolated the country from the outside world.

The Mizan website quoted the head of the judiciary in Iran, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejehi, as saying, “The people rightfully demand the swift trial and punishment of the main culprits and instigators of the riots, terrorism, and violence if their guilt is proven”.

Ejehi added, “The utmost strictness must be employed in the investigations,” confirming that “justice requires the trial and punishment, without the slightest leniency, of criminals who carried arms and killed people, or those who set fires, vandalized or committed massacres”.
