Reuters Poll Trumps Popularity at Lowest Amid Iran War

Khaberni - A new poll conducted by Reuters in cooperation with Ipsos shows that US President Donald Trump's popularity has fallen to its lowest level during his current term, as Americans grow increasingly dissatisfied with his handling of rising living costs and the war on Iran.

The poll, which lasted four days and ended on Monday, indicated that 34% of Americans approve of Trump's performance in the White House, down from 36% in a previous Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from April 15 to April 20.

Most of the responses were collected before the shooting incident last Saturday night at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where Trump was scheduled to speak.

Trump's popularity with the American public has declined since he took office in January 2025, when 47% of Americans gave him a positive rating.

His popularity plummeted sharply since the United States and Israel waged war on Iran on February 28, leading to rising gasoline prices.

The American Automobile Association estimates show that the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline recently reached $4.18, compared to $3.16 a year ago, reflecting ongoing pressure on the American consumer.

Only 22% of participants in the poll agreed with Trump's performance regarding cost of living, down from 25% in the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll.

The poll, which was conducted nationwide online, gathered responses from 1014 American adults, with a margin of error of 3 percentage points.

Midterm Elections
In recent weeks, a series of opinion polls revealed a sharp erosion in Trump's electoral base that was the cornerstone of his victory in 2024.

The polls indicate that the electoral coalition - which included the youth, Latinos, and economically concerned voters - has begun to unravel under the strain of military involvement in Iran and pressing cost of living issues, presenting the Republican Party with grim scenarios ahead of the midterm elections in November.

The Los Angeles Times highlighted the record decline in Trump's popularity among Latino voters, who were one of the major surprises of the 2024 U.S. presidential elections, initially supporting him with an unprecedented 48%.

To illustrate this decline, the newspaper cited an analysis published by The Economist magazine, which reported that this percentage dramatically dropped to just 22% by March of last year.

A Fox News poll conducted 4 weeks ago revealed a significant shift in the American public mood, with 64% of voters expressing dissatisfaction with Trump's handling of the Iran dossier, while opposition to his overall performance recorded the highest number since his assumption of power.

The poll, conducted between March 20 and March 23, 2026, showed that 59% of Americans oppose Trump's overall performance, the highest rate during his presidential terms.
