Khaberni - Syrian media outlets reported today, Wednesday, news of the death of Rifaat al-Assad, the brother of the former Syrian President Hafez al-Assad, and uncle of the deposed president Bashar al-Assad.
The media reported that Assad family accounts on social media mourned the death of Rifaat al-Assad this Wednesday morning, who was one of the prominent pillars of the Syrian regime during the 1970s and 1980s.
Rifaat al-Assad was known for leading the Defence Companies, and was exiled from Syria after an internal power struggle, living many years in France before returning to Damascus in his later years.
