Washington continues to blockade Iranian ports and redirects 38 ships

Khaberni - The U.S. Central Command said early Monday that it continues to impose a blockade on Iranian ports to prevent ships from entering or leaving them.

It added that its forces issued orders for 38 ships to turn around and return to port.

Washington imposes a blockade on Iranian maritime trade, while Iran has fired at ships to prevent them from sailing through the Strait of Hormuz, the entrance to the Arabian Gulf. Almost two months after the United States and Israel began their war on Iran, the prospects for resuming peace talks are slim amid a fragile ceasefire.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has cut off one-fifth of the world's oil and gas supplies, causing a global energy crisis. In recent days, U.S. forces have seized an Iranian cargo ship and an oil tanker. Iran announced that it had taken control of two container ships trying to exit the Gulf through the Strait of Hormuz, after firing at them and another ship, in the first operations of this kind since the beginning of the war.
