Damascus directs immediate activation of government institutions in Raqqa province

Khaberni  - The Syrian authorities directed -this Sunday- the immediate commencement of activating institutions and local councils in Raqqa province, northeast of the country, in conjunction with the entry of the army and the exit of the "SDF" forces.

This came according to a statement by the Syrian Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Mohammad Anjarini, after the vanguard of the army reached the administrative borders of Raqqa province on Saturday before taking control of the city of Tabqa and the Euphrates dam in the countryside of the province on Sunday.

Anjarini said, "We directed the person charged with the local administration affairs in Raqqa province (name not specified) to head immediately to the province, and begin the activation of government institutions and local councils."

He added that the government directive comes "as a signal to commence the provision of essential services, in parallel with the entry of the Syrian Arab Army."

The minister continued, "We are fully attentive to this process at every stage, to be ready to serve our people and meet their needs in these areas."

Early Sunday, the Army Operations Authority announced control of the city of Tabqa and the Euphrates dam west of Raqqa province (west of the Euphrates River), after expelling the "SDF" militants.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior, in a statement, said its units began deploying in Tabqa, after the army was able "to expel the terrorist militias of the Kurdistan Workers' Party" from the city.

The ministry explained that "the specialized engineering teams in the Ministry of Interior dismantled a large number of explosive devices and mines planted by the terrorist militias in the streets and service facilities in the city of Tabqa west of Raqqa, before they were expelled from the city by the Syrian Arab Army forces."

"SDF" reneged on its agreement with the government in March 2025, emphasizing respect for the Kurdish component among equal rights for all components of the Syrian people.

The agreement stipulates the integration of civil and military institutions in the northeast of the country into state administration, reopening borders, the airport, oil and gas fields, affirming the unity of the country's territory, and the withdrawal of its forces from Aleppo to the east of the Euphrates.

The government is making intensive efforts to secure the country since the overthrow on December 8, 2024, of Bashar al-Assad's regime, who succeeded his father Hafez al-Assad (1971-2000).
