Khaberni - The Korean Central News Agency reported on Thursday that North Korea and Russia intend to open a land bridge connecting the two countries across the Tumen River as soon as possible, as the neighboring countries seek to strengthen their relations.
The agency stated that the project, which began about a year ago, is "important" for enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas including tourism, trade, and people movement.
The agreement to build the bridge, which will be 850 meters long and will connect to the Russian highway network, was made during President Vladimir Putin's visit to North Korea in 2024.
It is being constructed near the existing "Friendship Bridge," which is a railway bridge that was commissioned in 1959 after the Korean War.
The news agency mentioned that the opening ceremony will be held soon without specifying a date. The Russian embassy in Pyongyang wrote on Telegram that the bridge will be completed on June 19th.
