ElSisi We Appreciate Trumps Offer to Mediate in the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Issue

Khaberni - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said he appreciates US President Donald Trump's offer to mediate the dispute over the waters of the Nile River with Ethiopia.

In a post on the platform "X", el-Sisi said on Saturday that he had sent a message to Trump to reaffirm Egypt's position and concerns about its water security due to the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam project.

He said: "Egypt has confirmed its commitment to serious and constructive cooperation with the Nile Basin countries, based on the principles of international law, and in a way that achieves mutual interests without harming any party. These are the fundamentals upon which the Egyptian position is based."

Trump, in a message sent on Friday to el-Sisi, stated that the United States is ready to resume mediation between Egypt and Ethiopia to help resolve the issue of sharing the Nile’s waters.

Trump wrote in the message, which he published on Truth Social platform, "I am ready to resume American mediation between Egypt and Ethiopia in order to resolve the issue of 'sharing the Nile waters' responsibly and definitively."

The inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam by Addis Ababa on September 9 provoked Cairo’s anger.

Ethiopia, the second most populous African country with over 120 million people, considers the dam, which costs $5 billion and is located on a tributary of the Nile, a fundamental pillar of its economic ambitions.

Egypt says the dam violates international treaties and could cause droughts and floods, which Ethiopia denies.

Trump has praised el-Sisi on several occasions, including during his visit to Egypt in October to sign an agreement regarding the war in Gaza.

The US President has repeatedly echoed Cairo's concerns about the water issue in public statements.
