Khaberni - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi appreciated the message from U.S. President Donald Trump, including praise for Egypt’s role in supporting security and stability regionally and internationally, with special attention to the issue of the Nile River as the “lifeblood of the Egyptian people.”
He affirmed the constants of the Egyptian position based on serious and constructive cooperation with the Nile Basin countries according to the principles of international law, achieving mutual interests without harming any party.
El-Sisi said he sent a letter to President Trump expressing thanks and appreciation, reaffirming Egypt's concerns related to its water security, and supporting Cairo’s efforts in the American initiative aimed at enhancing stability, looking forward to continuing close joint work in the coming phase.
The Egyptian President's statements came hours after a message posted by U.S. President Donald Trump on the "Truth Social" platform, where he thanked El-Sisi for his role in mediating to stop the war in Gaza, praising his leadership in managing the security and humanitarian challenges that the region has faced since October 7, 2023, and the repercussions of the war on Egypt and its people.
In the message, which "Al Ain News" has seen a copy of, Trump announced the United States' readiness to resume its role in mediating between Egypt and Ethiopia to reach a “responsible and final” solution regarding the sharing of Nile waters, affirming his deep understanding of the river's importance to Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia, and his commitment to helping achieve an agreement that ensures the water needs of all parties in the long term.
The American President emphasized that “no single country in this region should unilaterally control the valuable Nile resources to the detriment of its neighbors,” considering that reaching a permanent agreement requires suitable technical expertise, fair and transparent negotiations, along with a strong American role in monitoring and coordinating among the Nile Basin countries.
Trump explained that the desired agreement could ensure predictable water flows during drought years for Egypt and Sudan while enabling Ethiopia to generate large amounts of electricity, part of which could be used or sold to Egypt or Sudan, in arrangements that achieve mutual benefit.
Trump concluded his message by affirming that resolving tensions related to the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is a top priority for him, parallel to his efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East and Africa, praising what he described as the friendship and partnership that binds him with President El-Sisi and the Egyptian people.
