Agriculture Supplying one million liters of olive oil to consumer institutions at the beginning of February

Khaberni - The Assistant Secretary-General for Agricultural Marketing at the Ministry of Agriculture, Khalil Al-Amr, confirmed that one million liters of Tunisian olive oil will arrive in the kingdom at the beginning of February, and will be available to citizens through both civil and military institutions.

Al-Amr explained that the Ministry of Agriculture took this step in response to the gap experienced by local markets due to the repercussions of the previous rainy season, which led to a decline in production quantities.

He indicated that the imported quantities are estimated at about 3,000 tons of olive oil, to be distributed through both military and civil institutions, aiming to stabilize the market and meet the needs of citizens at reasonable prices.

The civilian consumer institution announced the arrival of the first batch of premium virgin Tunisian olive oil to its warehouses; in preparation for its distribution to the institution's markets.

The General Manager of the institution, Issam Al-Jarah, stated on Monday that the first batch of Tunisian olive oil will be available in all of the institution's 69 markets at a price of 21 dinars per 5-liter gallon after the necessary laboratory and sensory examinations are completed; to ensure the quality and safety of the oil before offering it in the markets during the upcoming few days.

He said that the Ministry of Agriculture granted the institution a license to purchase one million liters of imported olive oil, and that the rest of the contracted quantities will arrive progressively at the institution during the current month according to the shipments and batches agreed upon with the Tunisian side.

Al-Jarah added that this plan comes as part of the institution's efforts to provide multiple alternatives to consumers at suitable prices, particularly in light of the rising prices of local olive oil, which balances the market and prevents monopolistic practices.

The institution invited citizens to follow its official announcements to know the date of the oil's release, affirming its continued implementation of plans aimed at supporting food security and alleviating the burdens on citizens.
