- The long-term upgrade program will raise the quality of mobile networks kingdom-wide, enabling faster, more reliable, and sustainable digital experiences.
Khaberni - Umniah, one of the Beyon companies, announced a strategic partnership agreement spanning five years with Ericsson, a global leader in communication technologies, to develop and upgrade the radio access network using 3rd, 4th, and 5th generation technologies across various regions of the kingdom. According to the agreement, Ericsson will exclusively perform the upgrade work to support Jordan’s efforts to enhance its digital infrastructure and accelerate the digital transformation path in the coming years.
Umniah is currently the fastest mobile network in Jordan, and this collaboration will enhance this lead through upgrading the network's radio infrastructure with the latest Ericsson Radio System technologies. This upgrade aims to increase the network's efficiency and improve its performance, ensuring its capacity to keep up with the rapid increase in data usage. In this context, Massive MIMO TDD AIR 6419 antennas and Baseband 6631 and 6621 units will be installed, which are advanced solutions that provide greater traffic management capacity on the network, along with enhanced energy efficiency due to their lighter and more sustainable design.
The collaboration also includes the implementation of Ericsson Spectrum Sharing technology that allows the operation of 5th generation services on current 4th generation frequencies, enabling Umniah to extend 5G services to a wider number of provinces in the kingdom and enhance coverage across different areas. These upgrades will offer users higher speeds, lower response times, and more stable coverage, enhancing their access to remote education services, electronic government services, entertainment applications, and financial transactions via mobile.
This upgrade offers significant value to the business sector in Jordan, from startups and small enterprises to large institutions. The new network capabilities will support digital transformation, the adoption of cloud computing, automation, improved logistics, and the enablement of modern industry applications, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of Jordan's economy and opening up broader prospects for growth and innovation.
This step aligns with Umniah's vision to transform into a modern digital telecommunications company, through continuous investment in a more advanced, efficient, and sustainable network, maintaining its status as the fastest and best mobile network in the kingdom. These upgrades also pave the way for future applications based on artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and advanced automation.
In his comment on the agreement, Faisal Al-Jalahma, CEO of Umniah, stated that maintaining the company’s status as the fastest mobile network in Jordan requires continuous investment and a clear vision for the future of communications in the kingdom. He added that the partnership with Ericsson represents an important step towards building a more efficient and sustainable network, capable of meeting the increasing user needs and enhancing the digital experience across Jordan. He explained that this cooperation reflects Umniah’s commitment, as part of Beyon, to enable individuals and companies to achieve their full digital potential.
On his part, Youssef Sattar, the Chief Technical Officer at Umniah, explained that the agreement equips the company with the latest globally available radio technologies, which enhances the network's capability to expand, improve performance, and increase energy efficiency, all in preparation for advanced services and applications in the coming years.
On his part, Kevin Murphy, President of Ericsson in North East Middle East, said: "We are pleased to enhance our cooperation with Umniah in Jordan through this agreement, which will support the 3rd and 4th generation services (3G, 4G), in addition to deploying advanced 5G technology across the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. We are proud of our role as trusted partners to Umniah in supporting telecommunications services, enabling digital empowerment, promoting innovation, and contributing to the economic development journey in the country. This agreement clearly demonstrates our commitment to dedicate our efforts to serving Jordan, and it represents an important step towards elevating the digital experience for the next generation in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan."
This agreement marks a new milestone in the collaboration between Umniah and Ericsson, and an essential step towards developing the telecommunications sector in the kingdom. By enhancing the capabilities of the network and increasing its efficiency and sustainability, this partnership will ensure the continued provision of high-quality communication services to individuals, institutions, and government entities across Jordan, paving the way for a more advanced and prosperous digital future for everyone.
