Khaberni - FIFA shone a spotlight on the technical director of the national football team, Moroccan Jamal Salami, among a list of 16 coaches worldwide who have a unique record of participating in the World Cup finals as players and returning as coaches in the 2026 World Cup edition.
The report recently published stated that Salami, who represented the Moroccan national team as a player in the 1998 World Cup in France, is today among an elite group of global coaches who will attend the 2026 World Cup from the coaching bench, alongside prominent names in the world of football, including Frenchman Didier Deschamps, Argentine Lionel Scaloni, Italian Fabio Cannavaro, and Dutch Ronald Koeman.
This international interest comes after the historic achievement led by Salami by guiding the national team to qualify for the first time in its history to the World Cup finals in 2026, an unprecedented achievement for Jordanian football.
The report highlighted the importance of coaches who have World Cup experience as players, due to the technical and psychological expertise they possess, which helps in transferring the major tournament's atmosphere to their players and enhancing their readiness to compete at the highest levels.
Since taking over the national team, Salami has achieved notable results, most prominently leading the team to second place in the Arab Cup 2025, and the remarkable improvement in the team's global ranking, placing 64th in the latest ranking issued by FIFA.
