Khaberni - Press reports revealed a rocketing rise for Spanish Atlético Madrid and English Arsenal, in total player purchasing expenditure over the last two years.
According to Marca newspaper, the clubs that qualified for the Champions League semi-finals spent up to five times what Barcelona spent on transactions over two years.
Here is the list of clubs with the highest spending:
1- Atlético Madrid
Atlético Madrid topped the list with a total of 417 million euros spent during two seasons, interestingly focusing on the current season (2025-26), where the club invested 234 million euros to bolster its squad with notable names like:
Baeina: 42 million euros.
Lookman: 35 million euros.
Hanko: 30 million euros.
This comes after the season (2024-25), which featured the spectacular signing of Julian Alvarez for 75 million euros.
2- Arsenal:
English Arsenal ranked second with a total spending of 399 million euros.
The London club injected huge amounts this season (292 million euros) to ensure competition on all fronts, relying on quality signings:
Zubimendi: 70 million euros.
Eze: 69 million euros.
Jiokiris: 66 million euros.
3- Paris Saint-Germain:
Although Paris Saint-Germain ranked third with 366 million euros, most of this spending was concentrated in the last season (2024-25), which saw 255 million euros spent, most notably on the Kvaratskhelia deal (80 million euros).
In the current season, the club was calmer, spending only 111 million euros, topped by goalkeeper Chevalier at 40 million.
4- Bayern Munich:
Bavarian Bayern Munich's spending stabilized at 236 million euros.
The Bavarian club continued its measured strategy, and the most prominent deal this season was the signing of star Luis Diaz from Liverpool for 70 million euros, to enhance the German offensive power.
5- Barcelona:
Barcelona bottomed the list with a total spending of only 81 million euros over two seasons, apparently, the financial crisis of the Catalan club imposed a strict policy:
Season 2024-25: Spending 53 million euros (notably Joan Garcia at 48 million).
Season 2025-26: Spending only 28 million euros.
