Khaberni - The Turkish police forces quickly intervened to rescue a mother and her child as they crossed a street in Istanbul, where the severe storm and strong winds were impeding their movement.
According to the circulated video, the riot police teams formed what resembled a "human shield" around the mother and the stroller, providing protection from the strong winds and helping them walk safely until they reached a safe place, an act that impressed social media users and was considered a warm humanitarian act in the harsh weather conditions.
A severe storm hit Istanbul and several Turkish states today, Friday, causing widespread disruptions in transportation and air and sea navigation due to heavy rain and winds reaching speeds of about 80 kilometers per hour.
The storm caused water congestion in some main roads and partial disruption of traffic flow; marine transport services in the Bosporus Strait were also affected by the wind strength and high waves, with delays recorded in some flights and precautionary measures taken to ensure navigation safety.
The Turkish authorities have urged citizens to be cautious and avoid unnecessary movement, especially in coastal and low-lying areas, while following the official weather bulletins, anticipating continued weather fluctuations in the coming hours.
