152 Violations and Legal Proceedings at the Africa Cup of Nations

Khaberni - The Moroccan Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that the judicial offices in charge of the stadiums hosting the Africa Cup of Nations football matches in Morocco dealt with 152 violations between the start of the tournament on December 21 and January 6.

Out of this number recorded by the Prosecutor’s Office, 128 cases led to legal proceedings against individuals of various nationalities due to "criminal acts related to entering the stadiums as well as security and public order," according to what the Moroccan news agency reported from detailed statements by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Morocco is hosting the tournament, with its final match set for January 18, and has established judicial offices inside the stadiums that host the competitions, especially in the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

The task of these offices is to handle the violations that are recorded during the matches, as part of a mechanism aimed at simplifying procedures and reducing the burden on the courts.

With 61 cases, illegal entry or attempted illegal entry into the stadiums was the most common violation recorded by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, followed by the sale of tickets at an illegal price or without a license (19 cases).

Since the beginning of the tournament, the authorities have arrested about a hundred people in several Moroccan cities, particularly suspected of involvement in the "illegal sale" of tickets, according to local media.

Other violations also included the use of flares (fireworks) inside the stadiums, acts of violence, as well as the possession and use of cannabis, as clarified by the Moroccan agency.
