Khaberni - The Ghana Football Association today announced the death of Dominic Frempong, a winger for Berekum Chelsea, in an armed robbery that targeted their team's bus while returning from a match in the local premier league against Samartex on Sunday.
The incident took place on the Goaso-Bibiani road as the team was returning home after facing Samartex Samreboi in the south of the country.
The club stated on Monday: On our way back to Berekum from Samreboi, our team bus was attacked by a group of armed robbers who blocked the road to stop us.
The club added in its statement: Masked men carrying rifles started shooting at our bus while the driver was trying to reverse. The players and coaching staff fled to the nearby bushes for shelter from the bullets.
The Ghanaian Football Association later stated that Frempong (20 years old) died in the incident.

This incident not only represents a severe loss for Berekum Chelsea but for Ghanaian football as a whole. Dominic was a promising young talent who embodied his dedication and passion for the game, representing the spirit of the Ghanaian league.
The association said it would enhance security arrangements for traveling clubs participating in local competitions.
In a similar incident in 2023, the bus of Legion Cities team was attacked after a match in Samartex, though no injuries occurred among the players.
