Netanyahu to Gaza Peace Council Representative Hamas Must be Disarmed

Khaberni - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today (Thursday) with Nikolay Mladenov, appointed Director General of the Peace Council in Gaza Strip.

During the meeting, Netanyahu reiterated the necessity to disarm Hamas and strip the Gaza Strip of weapons in accordance with President Trump's 20-point plan, according to Israeli media.

It is expected that U.S. President Donald Trump will announce next week the establishment of the Gaza Peace Council as part of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement, according to two senior American officials.

The Peace Council, to be chaired by Trump and to include about 15 leaders from around the world, will oversee the technocratic Palestinian government and the reconstruction process of the Gaza Strip.

The anticipated announcement of the Peace Council comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to move to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement during his meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago last week.

Israeli Channel 12 stated: "Invitations are being sent to key countries to join the council".

Among the countries expected to be members of the council are: Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, and other countries, according to sources.

The Peace Council's representative on the ground will be the former United Nations envoy to the Middle East, Nikolay Mladenov.

Mladenov is visiting Israel this week to hold meetings with Netanyahu and other officials, ahead of Trump's anticipated announcement.

The first meeting of the Peace Council may be held during the World Economic Forum in Davos later this month.
