Inclusive Education at the Jordanian Ministry of Education
الكاتب: الدكتور محمد عماد العمري

Inclusive education today forms one of the essential aspects in the development of education in Jordan. It is a pedagogical approach based on the deep belief that education is a right for all students without discrimination, and that diversity and difference among learners should be a source of richness and strength within the classroom, not a cause for exclusion or marginalization. The Ministry of Education has given significant attention to enhancing the concept of inclusion in the school environment, by integrating students with disabilities or special needs into general education schools, to be partners in learning, growth, and development alongside their peers.
This direction was not just an administrative decision, but reflects a profound educational and humanitarian philosophy, based on social justice values and the human right to education. Over the past years, the Ministry has worked on preparing the infrastructure in many schools to be suitable for receiving students with disabilities, as well as focusing on training teachers and qualifying them to deal with individual differences, and adopting flexible teaching methods that meet everyone's needs without exception.
Despite the efforts made, there are still real challenges that stand in the way of this direction, including the shortage of specialized staff, the need to develop supportive legislation, and the provision of sufficient financial budgets to ensure the sustainability of integration effectively. Nevertheless, the determination to move forward in this national project does not wane but grows stronger and more vigorous, based on the belief that integrating different students not only benefits them alone but also educates an entire generation on acceptance, equality, and solidarity.
Inclusive education is not only an educational practice but a community message that underscores that the school is a home for everyone, and that differences in student abilities do not diminish their value, but open up new horizons for a deeper understanding of the meaning of education. From here, continuing on this path enhances Jordan’s educational status, making our schools a civilized model of respect for the human dignity of every learner.
