Universities in the Digital Transformation Era Reality and Ambition
الكاتب: الدكتور محمد عماد العمري

In an era where the pace of digitalization accelerates and the need for innovation and development increases, universities are more than ever required to redefine their roles and responsibilities in light of the comprehensive digital transformation, which has become a main feature of our age.
Digital transformation is no longer just about incorporating technology into the educational process, but has become a comprehensive framework that touches the administrative structure, student services, scientific research, and decision-making systems. Education today is moving towards smart and interactive learning environments, capable of meeting the needs of the digital generation, and offering customized and flexible content that supports creativity and critical thinking.
Although some Jordanian universities have begun advanced steps towards digitalization, through developing electronic platforms and digital services, challenges still exist, such as: weak technological infrastructure in some institutions, a shortage of qualified staff, and the absence of unified policies supporting digital transformation.
Successful digital transformation requires a clear national vision, sustainable investment in technical infrastructure, alongside developing the capabilities of staff and students, and linking this transformation to the strategic goals of higher education, such as enhancing quality, increasing efficiency, and linking educational outcomes to the job market.
In the end, universities remain a fundamental driver of change, and a locomotive for sustainable development. Our ambition is to see our universities in a position of leadership, not dependency, in a world where knowledge is built and managed by artificial intelligence and big data. Digital transformation is not a distant ambition, but a necessary condition for survival and excellence.
