The Parliamentary Investment Committee approves the amended Competition Law

Khaberni - The Parliamentary Economic and Investment Committee, chaired by Deputy Khaled Abu Hassan, approved today, Monday, the amended bill for the Competition Law for the year 2025, during a meeting attended by the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarub Al-Qudah.
Abu Hassan stated that the committee approved the bill's articles after completing its ongoing discussions and listening to experts and specialists, as well as reviewing comments and opinions from various relevant parties.
He emphasized that the committee was keen to ensure that the law meets the economic phase requirements and enhances a fair competitive environment in the local market, thus serving the public interest.
He noted that the bill aims to develop the institutional framework for the enforcement of the Competition Law, through restructuring the Competition Directorate in the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply into an independent department called "Competition Protection Department," administratively affiliated with the Minister of Industry and Trade.
The law also includes the formation of a council for competition affairs, framing the tools for decision-making and initiating complaints, and organizing the course of investigations in competition cases, in line with the best international practices.
In turn, committee members, deputies: Abdul Basit Kabariti, Salem Abu State, Tareq Bani Hani, Mohammad Kataw, Zuhair Khashman, Musa Al Wahsh, and Hail Ayash, confirmed that the bill represents a qualitative leap in enhancing competition, in addition to stimulating investment and protecting consumers, which positively reflects on supporting the national economy.
For his part, Minister Al-Qudah confirmed the importance of improving the competition system in the kingdom, indicating that the proposed amendments aim to enhance the investment environment and increase investors' confidence in the Jordanian market, through the establishment of governance principles and supporting the institutional independence of the authority concerned with competition protection.
